Thanks for these recommendations. I love books about friend/sister relationships; in fact I enjoy most messy family sagas, preferably ones that span a couple of generations. I had not heard of Swing Time before, I guess it's time to go back and read it.

Elena Ferrante's Neopolitan novels, The Weekend by Charlotte Wood, Maeve Binchy's Circle of Friends, Jacqueline Wilson's Girls in Love etc., Dolly's Everything I Know About Love. I think I'll stop at five but I may return!
